An oil tanker caught fire on the Mentaya River in Sampit during docking. Flames remain active as authorities investigate the cause of the incident.

SAMPIT – An oil tanker caught fire while docked along the Mentaya River in Tanah Mas Village, Baamang District, Kotawaringin Timur Regency, Central Kalimantan, on Saturday afternoon.

The fire broke out at approximately 5:30 PM local time and quickly drew attention from nearby residents. Large flames were seen rising from the vessel well into the evening.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kotawaringin Timur, Multazam, confirmed that the fire was still active as of Saturday night.

“The fire is still active. This involves fuel top-up and engine-related components,” he said.

Firefighters Work To Prevent Spread

Dozens of firefighters, assisted by local volunteers, were deployed to the scene to control the situation. Their main priority is to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby vessels and docking facilities.

Initial reports indicate that the tanker was undergoing repairs at a docking facility owned by a company when the fire occurred.

Cause Of Fire Still Under Investigation

Tanah Mas Village Head Ridowan confirmed the incident but stated that authorities are still gathering information regarding the timeline and cause of the fire.

“At this point, we do not yet know the exact cause, whether it was due to human error or another factor,” he explained.

He emphasized that the tanker belonged to a company and was undergoing maintenance at the time of the incident.

Docking Area Considered High Risk

Ridowan added that the location is commonly used as a technical hub for vessel maintenance. Various types of ships, including barges and tugboats, regularly dock there for repairs.

Technical activities such as welding are frequently carried out in the area, which inherently carries a higher risk of fire hazards.

“Repair work often involves welding on damaged or leaking parts of the vessel,” he added.

BPBD Kotim extinguished a 0.95-hectare land fire in Mentawa Baru Ketapang and urged residents to stay alert as wildfire risks rise during dry conditions.

A land and forest fire has once again occurred in Kotawaringin Timur (Kotim), Central Kalimantan, prompting a swift response from the local Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

Head of BPBD Kotim, Multazam, stated that the fire broke out on a privately owned plantation belonging to a resident identified as Muhajirin. The affected area is located in Bangkuang Makmur Village, Mentawa Baru Ketapang District.

“The burned area is estimated to be around three hectares. The landowner was not aware that a fire had started on the property,” Multazam said in Sampit on Friday.

Fire Started On Wednesday Afternoon

The fire was first detected on Wednesday afternoon (March 25). Emergency teams immediately deployed to the scene and worked to extinguish the flames until late evening, continuing efforts the following morning.

A total of 10 BPBD personnel were dispatched, supported by seven members of the Manggala Agni fire brigade. The team had to travel approximately 4.2 kilometers from the Sampit–Samuda main road, passing through Eka Bahurui Village to reach the site.

Peatland Conditions Complicate Firefighting Efforts

The fire burned through shrubs and vegetation on peatland, which presents significant challenges during firefighting operations. Peat fires are known to spread underground, making them difficult to fully extinguish.

The firefighting and cooling process lasted more than six hours, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:11 p.m. local time.

“We managed to contain and cool down approximately 0.95 hectares of burned land. There is still residual smoke, so cooling efforts were necessary,” Multazam explained.

Another Fire Reported A Day Earlier

A day before this incident, another land fire was reported on Jalan Ir Soekarno in Baamang Tengah Subdistrict, Baamang District. This indicates an increasing risk of wildfires in the region.

Authorities Urge Public Not To Burn Land

With rainfall intensity decreasing and dry conditions emerging, BPBD Kotim is urging residents not to clear land by burning.

Preventive measures are considered crucial, especially since much of the region consists of peat soil, which becomes highly flammable during dry seasons.

“Once peatland catches fire, it can burn beneath the surface and is very difficult to extinguish. That’s why prevention is our top priority,” Multazam emphasized.

Authorities hope that increased public awareness will help prevent further incidents and reduce the risk of haze that can impact public health.

FAQ

1. Where did the land fire occur?

The fire occurred in Bangkuang Makmur Village, Mentawa Baru Ketapang District, Kotawaringin Timur.

2. How large was the affected area?

20 Tons of Pesticide Spill into Cisadane River, Here’s What It Means for Residents

20 Tons of Pesticide Spill into Cisadane River, Here’s What It Means for Residents
20 Tons of Pesticide Spill into Cisadane River, Here’s What It Means for Residents.

Things got real serious along the Cisadane River after reports confirmed that around 20 tons of pesticide contaminated the waterway. For thousands of residents who rely on this river every day, this is not just another headline. It is a wake-up call.

The incident started after a warehouse storing agricultural chemicals caught fire. During the firefighting process, water mixed with large amounts of pesticide reportedly flowed into nearby drains and eventually reached the Cisadane River system. What followed was fast-moving contamination that spread downstream, affecting multiple communities.

Now let’s break it down in simple terms. Pesticides are chemicals commonly used in farming to control pests and protect crops. When handled properly and used in controlled amounts, they help farmers maintain food production. But when massive quantities enter a river ecosystem, it becomes a serious environmental hazard.

Shortly after the spill, residents noticed changes in water quality. The river appeared murkier than usual. In several areas, dead fish were found floating on the surface. This is often one of the first visible signs that something is wrong in an aquatic environment. Fish and other organisms are extremely sensitive to chemical changes in water.

Government environmental teams quickly stepped in. Officials collected water samples from multiple points along the river to test contamination levels. They also examined dead fish to determine how severely the ecosystem had been affected. The goal is to measure toxicity levels and assess how far the pesticide spread.

For communities living near the Cisadane River, the big question is safety. Is the water still safe to use? Can fish from the river still be consumed?

Authorities are advising residents not to use untreated river water for daily needs until official clearance is issued. This includes bathing, washing, or cooking with river water. As for fish, experts recommend avoiding consumption from affected areas until laboratory results confirm safety.

Here’s why this matters. When pesticides enter water sources, they can impact both wildlife and human health. Direct contact with contaminated water may cause skin irritation. Inhaling chemical fumes in certain conditions can affect breathing. Long-term exposure through food or water could pose additional risks, depending on concentration levels.

Beyond immediate health concerns, there is also the environmental impact. Rivers like Cisadane support biodiversity, irrigation systems, and local economies. A large-scale pesticide spill disrupts that balance. Recovery is possible, but it takes time, monitoring, and coordinated cleanup efforts.

Environmental authorities are now focusing on two main actions. First, they are conducting thorough testing to understand contamination levels. Second, they are evaluating safety protocols for chemical storage facilities. Preventing future incidents is just as important as handling the current crisis.

This situation highlights a bigger issue: hazardous material management. Industrial and agricultural chemical storage requires strict safety systems. Fire prevention measures, proper containment infrastructure, and emergency response planning are critical. One accident can quickly escalate into a regional environmental problem.

For residents, the best course of action right now is awareness and caution. Follow official updates. Avoid using river water until it is declared safe. Do not consume fish from impacted zones. Report unusual conditions to local authorities.

The Cisadane River pesticide spill is more than just an environmental story. It is a reminder that water security and environmental protection go hand in hand. Clean rivers are not guaranteed. They depend on responsible industry practices, strong regulations, and active community oversight.

As investigations continue, many are hoping for swift remediation and stricter safeguards. Because at the end of the day, protecting water sources means protecting public health, local livelihoods, and future generations.

21 Bags of Shredded Rupiah Found at Illegal Dump in Bekasi, Here’s the Real Story

21 Bags of Shredded Rupiah Found at Illegal Dump in Bekasi, Here’s the Real Story
21 Bags of Shredded Rupiah Found at Illegal Dump in Bekasi, Here’s the Real Story.

Residents of Bekasi Regency were left stunned after dozens of sacks filled with shredded Indonesian rupiah were discovered at an illegal trash dumping site. The bizarre find took place in Taman Rahayu Village, Setu District, and quickly went viral after authorities confirmed the money originated from Bank Indonesia (BI).

In total, 21 large bags of shredded rupiah banknotes were found dumped in the open area. The discovery immediately raised red flags, prompting police and government agencies to step in, given the sensitive nature of state-issued currency and the risk of potential misuse.

Bekasi Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Sumarni confirmed that investigators had coordinated directly with Bank Indonesia. According to her, the shredded banknotes were verified as old rupiah bills that are no longer in circulation.

“We’ve checked with Bank Indonesia, and it’s confirmed these are shredded BI banknotes, no longer valid,” Sumarni said during a press briefing in Jakarta.

She also emphasized that the money fragments are authentic rupiah and have now been secured as evidence for further investigation.

Backing up the statement, Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto said the case is being closely monitored by both Setu Police and Bekasi Metro Police. Officers have secured samples of the shredded money and sent them for forensic testing.

“The samples are being examined to confirm their type and authenticity through forensic analysis,” Budi explained.

Police didn’t stop there. Investigators questioned several witnesses, including the landowner, site managers, and coordinated with the Bekasi Environmental Agency (DLH) to trace how the shredded BI currency ended up at an illegal dumping site in the first place.

Setu Police Chief AKP Usep Aramsyah said securing the 21 bags was a preventive move.

“We secured them to make sure they aren’t misused by irresponsible parties,” he stated.

From the local government side, DLH Bekasi spokesperson Dedi Kurniawan confirmed the findings after an on-site inspection.

“Yes, the shredded material is real rupiah currency,” Dedi said.

DLH is now working with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and law enforcement to investigate the disposal process and prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Meanwhile, the landowner, Santo (65), claimed he had no idea the dumped material was shredded money. He said the waste was used to fill land for garbage sorting activities.

“I needed landfill material. If I had to pay for it myself, I couldn’t afford it. Someone dumped it, so I used it. I honestly didn’t know it was shredded money,” Santo said.

Authorities continue to dig deeper into the case. The discovery of 21 bags of shredded rupiah at an illegal dump in Bekasi has sparked public concern and raised serious questions about how sensitive materials like destroyed state currency are handled. For now, the public is waiting for answers—especially how BI’s shredded money ended up in a location easily accessed by residents.

South Singkawang Wildfires Spread, Joint Task Force Fights Day and Night to Extinguish Flames Near Airport

South Singkawang Wildfires Spread, Joint Task Force Fights Day and Night to Extinguish Flames Near Airport
South Singkawang Wildfires Spread, Joint Task Force Fights Day and Night to Extinguish Flames Near Airport.

Efforts to extinguish forest and land fires in South Singkawang continue to intensify. The blaze affecting the Airport Road area of Singkawang City, West Kalimantan, has burned approximately five hectares of land and still leaves several active hotspots that could spread further.

A joint task force from multiple agencies has been on the ground for several days. Firefighting efforts are focused on two main locations: Sedau Village and Pangmilang Village. Field assessments show that about two hectares have burned in Sedau, while the remaining three hectares are in Pangmilang.

The Head of Operations for Manggala Agni Kalimantan IX/Singkawang, Yuyu Wahyudin, said the team continues to battle the fire to ensure it is fully brought under control.

“We are continuing suppression efforts so the wildfire along Singkawang’s Airport Road can be handled quickly and prevented from spreading,” Yuyu said when met in Singkawang on Tuesday.

🔥 Peatland Conditions and Strong Winds Pose Major Challenges

This wildfire has not been easy to contain. Yuyu explained that from Sunday (2/1) through Tuesday, the fire had not been completely extinguished. Peatland conditions dominated by ferns, acacia, oil palm, and dense shrubs allow the fire to spread rapidly.

Adding to the challenge, winds of around 11 kilometers per hour have worsened the situation. Flames and thick smoke spread quickly, forcing crews to work even harder on the ground.

“Peatlands are highly vulnerable. Fires can reignite if they are not fully extinguished. That’s why we will continue suppression efforts until everything is completely out,” he emphasized.

🚒 Only Half of the Burned Area Has Been Extinguished

So far, the joint team has managed to extinguish about 2.5 hectares, while the remaining area is still under active response. In several spots, flames are still visible with heavy smoke, prompting crews to carry out intensive water saturation and firebreak measures to prevent further spread.

👥 71 Personnel Deployed, Full Equipment on Standby

Ground firefighting operations involve 71 personnel from multiple agencies, including:

  • Manggala Agni Kalimantan IX/Singkawang

  • South Singkawang Military District (Koramil)

  • South Singkawang Subdistrict authorities

  • Singkawang Brimob Company

  • Singkawang Police and South Singkawang Police Sector

  • Singkawang City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD)

  • Fire Care Community (MPA)

A range of equipment has been deployed, including water pumps, suction and delivery hoses, operational vehicles, and manual firefighting tools. Water supply is sourced from nearby drainage canals measuring about one meter wide and one meter deep.

⚠️ Residents Urged to Remain Alert

Yuyu stressed that suppression efforts will continue until all hotspots are declared safe. This is crucial to prevent flare-ups, as peatland areas are highly prone to reignition even after flames appear to be out.

For nearby residents, continued vigilance is essential. Collective support and awareness are key to preventing future wildfires and protecting the environment.

🔥 Wildfires are not just about flames—they are about the future of our environment. Let’s work together to protect Singkawang’s natural landscape.

Over 105K Still Displaced After Massive Floods Hit Sumatra

Over 105K Still Displaced After Massive Floods Hit Sumatra
Over 105K Still Displaced After Massive Floods Hit Sumatra.

More than 105,000 people across Sumatra are still living in evacuation shelters as deadly floods and landslides continue to leave deep scars in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra. Even weeks after the disasters struck, the situation on the ground shows recovery is far from over.

Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reports that 105,842 residents have yet to return home. For many families, safety comes first, forcing them to stay in temporary shelters with support from joint response teams made up of central and local government officials. Some evacuees are staying at official camps, while others are seeking refuge independently with relatives or in public facilities.

According to BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari, the figures reflect the latest data as of Monday (Feb 2) and will continue to be updated. “Accurate data is critical,” he said, noting that it helps ensure aid distribution matches real needs in the field.

Beyond food supplies, BNPB is focusing heavily on health services, clean water access, sanitation, and protection for vulnerable groups, including children, elderly residents, and pregnant women. Managing evacuation sites effectively has become a top priority to prevent secondary crises.

The human toll remains heartbreaking. So far, authorities have confirmed 1,204 fatalities, while 140 people are still missing following the disasters that began nearly two months ago. For many survivors, the trauma is ongoing as they wait for clarity and support.

To address housing losses, BNPB has stepped up efforts to build temporary shelters. Out of 17,332 proposed units, 5,039 shelters are already completed and ready for occupancy. These structures are expected to provide short-term relief while permanent reconstruction plans move forward.

BNPB stressed that rebuilding damaged infrastructure—including roads, bridges, and public facilities—is key to restoring economic activity and daily life in affected areas. Without functioning infrastructure, recovery will remain slow.

For now, thousands of families are still holding on in evacuation camps, hoping conditions will improve soon. The disaster may no longer dominate headlines, but for those impacted, the struggle is very real—and far from finished.

A deadly moment inside a power plant chimney… the survivor’s testimony is truly chilling.

Four cleaning service workers at the Sukabangun Dalam Coal-Fired Power Plant in Ketapang became victims of a sudden coal dust collapse. The tragic incident happened on Wednesday afternoon, January 21, 2026, at around 3:30 p.m. local time.

Two workers died at the scene. They were identified as JN, 35 years old, and RN, 32 years old, both residents of Sukabangun Dalam. Two others, PEM and HR, survived the accident.

One of the survivors, PEM, shared the terrifying moments while receiving treatment at dr. Agoesdjam Regional Hospital in Ketapang. At the time, all four workers were assigned to clean a chimney shaft that was clogged with hardened coal dust.

According to PEM, the collapse happened suddenly and without warning. Coal dust from above gave way and crashed down into the lower section of the chimney.

He said he tried to pull his coworker’s body harness, but the collapse was too fast and too heavy. Two workers who were positioned at the bottom had no chance to escape. PEM himself was buried in coal dust up to his neck.

All victims were immediately evacuated and taken to the hospital. The two survivors have since been allowed to return home after medical observation. Meanwhile, another worker who was outside the chimney and attempted to help reportedly suffered from shock and remains under treatment.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the accident, including whether proper workplace safety procedures were followed.

This tragedy serves as a painful reminder that a single moment at work can cost lives.

Gone for 17 Days, 18-Year-Old Hiker Syafiq Ali Found Dead Near the Summit of Mount Slamet

Gone for 17 Days, 18-Year-Old Hiker Syafiq Ali Found Dead Near the Summit of Mount Slamet
Gone for 17 Days, 18-Year-Old Hiker Syafiq Ali Found Dead Near the Summit of Mount Slamet.

Mount Slamet has once again become the setting of a heartbreaking story. After more than two weeks of searching and hoping for a miracle, the worst news finally arrived. Syafiq Ridhan Ali Razan, an 18-year-old hiker who had been missing for 17 days, was found dead near the summit of the mountain.

Syafiq Ali was discovered on Wednesday (January 14) at around 10:22 a.m. local time along the Gunung Malang ridge, specifically in the Batu Watu Langgar area. The location is still within the upper zone of Mount Slamet, an area known for its extreme weather and dangerous terrain.

“We can confirm that the survivor, Syafiq Ali, has been found deceased,” said Sutrisno, the Head of Clekatakan Village, in a somber statement.

A Climb That Ended in Tragedy

Syafiq Ali began his hike with a close friend, Himawan Choidar Bahran, via the Dipajaya Clekatakan trail in Pemalang Regency on Saturday night, December 27, 2025, at around 11:00 p.m.

But somewhere along the climb, things went wrong. The two became separated near Post 9. Himawan was later found alive at Post 5 and immediately evacuated to the Dipajaya basecamp. According to his account, Syafiq Ali was trying to look for help when they lost contact.

After that moment, Syafiq Ali vanished without a trace.

Found Just 50 Meters from the Summit

After 17 long days of intense searching, the discovery finally brought answers—though not the ones everyone hoped for. Catur Budi Fajar Sumarmo, Assistant for Government and Public Welfare Affairs at the Magelang City Secretariat, said the victim was found extremely close to the summit.

“He wasn’t at the bottom of the crater, but on the crater’s cliff near the top. The distance was only about 50 meters from the summit,” Catur explained.

The information reached local authorities around 10:30 a.m., directly from the SAR team stationed near the peak. For the family and volunteers who had been waiting anxiously, the news was devastating.

Personal Belongings Scattered, Hypothermia Suspected

Arie Affandi, Head of the Wanadri SAR Operation, described the condition in which Syafiq Ali was found. The location was still close to the area where he and his friend were last together.

“Several personal items were found scattered nearby, including his wallet, trekking pole, flashlight, emergency blanket, and other gear,” Affandi told reporters.

The body was not buried or covered by sand. Based on observations at the site, the SAR team believes Syafiq Ali passed away about four to five days before he was found.

“Physically, the body was still in relatively good condition,” Affandi added.

The team strongly suspects hypothermia as the cause of death. This was supported by the condition of the victim’s clothing.

“He had removed his pants down to his knees, as well as his shoes and socks. This behavior is commonly seen in severe hypothermia cases,” Affandi explained.

Difficult Evacuation, Weather Becomes a Major Obstacle

Recovering Syafiq Ali’s body proved to be an enormous challenge. The steep terrain and rapidly changing weather slowed the evacuation process. By 3:00 p.m., the body had only been moved about 100 meters from the discovery point.

According to Catur, transporting the body to the Dipajaya basecamp was expected to take around 15 hours. The plan was to bring the body to Pemalang Regional Hospital before returning it to Magelang, where the family awaits.

However, worsening weather forced the rescue team to stop and take shelter at one of the hiking posts.

“That’s correct. Due to bad weather, the evacuation has been postponed and will continue tomorrow,” Sutrisno confirmed.

A Painful Reminder for All Hikers

Syafiq Ali’s death has left deep sorrow—not only for his family, but also for the hiking community. His story is a harsh reminder that mountains are not just scenic destinations, but powerful natural environments that demand preparation, awareness, and respect.

Syafiq Ali may never make it home alive, but his journey serves as a warning for others. May he rest in peace, and may his family find strength during this painful time.

Tragedy in West Jakarta: Fire Destroys 70 Homes, Leaves 400 Residents Homeless

Tragedy in West Jakarta: Fire Destroys 70 Homes, Leaves 400 Residents Homeless
Tragedy in West Jakarta: Fire Destroys 70 Homes, Leaves 400 Residents Homeless.

Jakarta – A devastating fire swept through a densely populated neighborhood in Duri Utara, Tambora, West Jakarta, reducing at least 70 homes to ashes and displacing around 100 families—a total of 400 people. By 4:00 PM (WIB), several hotspots were still burning as firefighters continued battling the flames.

The fire reportedly broke out Monday morning in one of the tightly packed houses and spread rapidly due to strong winds and flammable building materials. The intensity of the fire quickly turned it into one of the worst disasters the area has seen in recent years.

Firefighters arrived early and worked tirelessly throughout the day. However, due to the scale of the blaze, they were still trying to extinguish the remaining fire points by late afternoon.

The victims include 100 households, many of whom lost all of their belongings, including important documents. Residents were seen gathering along Jalan Pasar Garuda, salvaging what little they could—some only had the clothes on their backs.

“I lost everything, including my house documents and IDs. We couldn’t save anything,” said one of the victims tearfully.

To support affected residents, the Tambora Police set up a 24-hour emergency post at RW 02 Duri Utara. Victims can report lost documents such as ID cards, family cards, birth certificates, and property papers, and receive official loss certificates right on site.

“We’ve prepared everything here. People just need to come to the post and we’ll help print the necessary documents immediately,” said Tambora Police Chief, Kompol Muhammad Kukuh Islami, in a statement quoted by Antaranews.

The fire started in the early hours of Monday, July 21, 2025, and spread rapidly. Although emergency crews arrived in the morning, the fire’s intensity meant that flames and smoke were still visible by 4:00 PM WIB. Several homes collapsed entirely, while others were left scorched inside and out.

According to on-site reports, the compact layout of homes combined with combustible materials like wood, contributed to the fire’s rapid spread. Strong winds further fueled the flames, making it hard for firefighters to contain the situation in the early hours.

Local authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the fire, but an investigation is currently underway.

As of now, relief efforts are ongoing, with government agencies and local volunteers distributing food, clothing, medicine, and hygiene supplies at a temporary shelter near the RW 02 post.

If you're willing to help, the community is in urgent need of:

  • Ready-to-eat meals

  • Clean clothes and blankets

  • Baby supplies

  • Sanitary products

  • Financial donations

You can bring your donations directly to the relief post at RW 02 Duri Utara, or wait for the government to release official donation channels.

This heartbreaking incident is a stark reminder of how quickly disaster can strike, especially in densely populated areas. While emergency services and government aid are doing their part, public support is crucial to help these families recover.

Let’s come together as a community and help our fellow citizens rebuild their lives. Your small act of kindness can make a big difference.

Real-Life Emergency on Mount Rinjani: Swiss Climber Suffers Major Injuries, Helicopter Evacuation Initiated

Real-Life Emergency on Mount Rinjani: Swiss Climber Suffers Major Injuries, Helicopter Evacuation Initiated
Real-Life Emergency on Mount Rinjani: Swiss Climber Suffers Major Injuries, Helicopter Evacuation Initiated.

Mount Rinjani, one of Indonesia’s most iconic hiking destinations, was the site of a serious incident on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. At approximately 11:25 AM WITA, the Mount Rinjani National Park Authority (BTNGR) received an emergency report about a foreign hiker who had been injured roughly 25 minutes before reaching the Iron Bridge on the way to Lake Segara Anak.

According to the initial report from the guide and porter accompanying the hiker, the victim was bleeding and suspected to have multiple bone fractures.

The victim was identified as Benedikt Emmenegger, a 46-year-old man from Switzerland. He was officially registered via the eRinjani app and had begun his hike on July 15, 2025, through the Sembalun trail under booking code ER6DXB5STLQDS.

Rapid Response from Rescue Teams

Upon receiving the report, BTNGR quickly coordinated with the Edelweis Medical Help Center (EMHC) to prepare rescue gear and supplies. By 11:30 AM WITA, the evacuation team had established communication with the guide to provide initial first aid instructions and requested that they remain by the victim's side until help arrived.

At 11:59 AM WITA, the situation became more critical. Another hiker, who turned out to be a medical doctor, examined the injured man and advised that an air evacuation was necessary. The doctor expressed concerns that a ground rescue could worsen the injuries, especially if internal bleeding was involved.

Request for Air Rescue Coordination

At 12:15 PM WITA, BTNGR contacted the Operations Section Chief at the Mataram Search and Rescue (SAR) Office to request an aerial evacuation. The SAR office immediately deployed personnel from the Kayangan SAR Post to Sembalun. Simultaneously, EMHC medical teams and Rinjani Squad members from Post 2 moved toward the accident site.

Meanwhile, a separate team from BTNGR coordinated directly with the Head of Mataram SAR to further assess the possibility and logistics of deploying a helicopter for the rescue.

Helicopter Assessment and Weather Concerns

By 1:51 PM WITA, BTNGR was in direct contact with Bali Air, the helicopter operator. The helicopter crew requested video footage of the terrain surrounding the victim’s location to assess whether a safe landing was possible.

At 3:00 PM WITA, the helicopter was cleared for deployment, pending stable weather conditions. Should the air evacuation proceed successfully, the injured hiker would be flown directly to Nusa Medica Hospital in Bali. The hiker’s personal insurance provider had also been in contact with the hospital to make the necessary arrangements.

As of the latest update, the evacuation operation is still underway with close monitoring of weather and terrain conditions. Any new developments will be announced through an official press release by the Ministry of Forestry.

The Truth Behind Juliana’s Case: Brazilian Hiker Fell on Indonesian Volcano Trail
The Truth Behind Juliana’s Case: Brazilian Hiker Fell on Indonesian Volcano Trail.

A Brazilian tourist named Juliana has captured international attention after reports claimed she suffered a tragic fall while hiking a volcano trail in Indonesia. However, new statements from her family contradict the official information previously shared.

Not a 200-Meter Fall — It Was 900 Meters

Many news outlets initially reported that Juliana had fallen about 200 meters. However, a Brazilian source, claiming to be a relative, has clarified that Juliana actually fell 900 meters down a steep mountainside. Her body didn’t fall straight down, but rather slid along the slope, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.

“The mountain slope was incredibly steep. Juliana’s body slid, it wasn’t a vertical fall like most headlines suggest,” the source explained.

Family Denies Rescue Videos Released by Officials

A shocking claim came from Juliana’s sister, who refuted all rescue footage circulating on social media and news platforms.

“All the rescue videos being shown are lies. They haven’t even reached her location. We’ve been waiting for over 30 hours and no real help has arrived,” she said.

Why This Matters

This incident raises serious questions about the accuracy of official information and the safety of international tourists exploring remote volcano trails in Indonesia. It also serves as a crucial reminder for all hikers and travelers to:

  • Always hire a professional local guide.

  • Check weather conditions and trail safety beforehand.

  • Ensure you have travel insurance and emergency support.

  • Share your travel plans with friends or family.

Juliana’s tragic accident highlights the importance of accurate information and swift emergency response. Her family is calling for the truth to be known, hoping it will bring more attention to the reality on the ground.

We all hope Juliana is found soon and receives the help she needs. Let this also be a wake-up call for local authorities and tourism bodies to improve safety protocols for future adventurers.
